I wonder what they put in the food that guy ate for the X-ray filming. Something that absorbed the X-rays more than bones.
I remember watching this very film in 4th or 5th grade in 1970 or 71. The whole class groaned when seeing the x-ray film of the person chewing and swallowing. Cool to see it again all these years later.
No expense spared on props. 😂

Along these same lines, I recommend the book "Gulp: adventures along the alimentary canal" by Mary Roach, which starts with salivation and mastication, continues with ingestion and digestion, and ends with elimination. Her books are always funny and entertaining as well as enlightening. And as for the "end product" 💩, I recommend "The Big Necessity: the world of human waste and why it matters" by Elizabeth Rose George.
I like to say humans are worms with parasitic brains. If the worm is happy, everything else is fine.
Do you ever find some old educational films that get some parts of the science wrong?
The beginning part of this video left out the damage done by voles, mice, woodchucks and disease. Of course in 1970 we didn't have the same pests we do now. I love your vintage films! Thanks Fran!

As a child of the 70s this was exactly the kind of thing that was shown to us quite often in elementary school.
By the 5th grade the entire student body had become quite proficient projectionist just from being around the projectors and seeing how they worked. If something went wrong during a showing we would call out to the teacher what she needed to do to correct the image. Focus! Framing! Tension!
We were an impatient and grumpy bunch during movie time.
Fun Fact: pooping is also part of digestion and is required to live.

very informative Fran and thank you for the upload, curious about copyright, as it's just 1970? i was hammered by Sony and UMPG Publishing for a song I composed on a free music creation site, Sony and UMPG claim I am infringing on the composition, maybe i should take that as a compliment that my song sounds similar to another enough to be flagged even though it was entirely harmless and unintentional
