Fran, nothing to do with cereal, but I grew-up with all those as a kid…Anyway, would be very interested in your opinion(s) concerning the Apollo 1 fire…

Child of the 70s, four kids in the house raised by a single mom. We had very little say in the grocery store.
Mom always, ALWAYS, bought the cheapest brand on the shelf. This was before generic brands so my cereal choices were limited to Rice Crispies, Cheerios, Shredded Wheat and Grape Nuts. To this day I have no interest in those super sweet cereals. Right now there is a generic box of bran flakes and a generic box of Crispix on top of my fridge.

The name of Super Sugar Crisp morphed into Super Golden Crisp.

I used to make chocolate milk, and pour it over my Cocoa Krispies and Cocoa Puffs.

My Mother was smart enough to not feed us this unhealthy crap. This garbage was sold just like tobacco. All outright lies in the interests of corporate profits. Cereal was originally sold using the words "Healthy breakfast" until the FDA forced them to stop using those words which are now "part of a healthy breakfast". None of our government food recommendations are based on science and most of the studies are based corporate sponsored studies. We would not have the obesity crisis we have today if unbiased science was used. Any real study with sugars has to include the action of Insulin as insulin works hand in hand with Glucose to metabolize sugars. Remember, it is not science if it cannot be questioned and people finally have access to those studies and are finally questioning them.

I'd kill for it, if someone would do the "Chocolate Covered Sugar Bombs" that Calvin loved so much in the comics strip "Calvin & Hobbs". These days nothing tastes quite the way it did in the 60's. I take that back, the shredded wheat still tastes like shredded wheat – I would put a ton of sugar on it before eating.

I like how plain Kix cereal was.
