I'm not even sure if YouTube itself turns a profit yet.

What use are creators and viewers that can't even pass the Turing test? Let alone Voight-Kampff…

My channel is a few months old and I may have under 150 subscribers by now (that's more than three orders of magnitude less than FranLab!) but at least it proves all of them are real deal people interested in the stuff or me. I like doing it, and I know I'll probably never get more than a thousand unless something big happens, like someone discovering interesting stuff on my channel and putting it out there on Hackaday or elsewhere, and I get an inrush… slim chance of it happening, so I can forget about any of this monetization thing. Why care.

Getting rich… nah, not in this economy. It's the apocalypse, no prospects for the future. Just live your day to day existence because you never know what's gonna happen in a few months, even if you have strength and mental health to work real damn hard, and you do. Unless you mean getting internally rich, which is definitely the thing for a lot of us here who put some thought and creative process into it.

Those pay-up-front selling-the-YouTube-dream seminars remind me of the Rich-Dad-Poor-Dad grifter culture – the stages were as follows:
Someone with a little cash gets lucky on the real estate market and writes book about it
Book reaches number one on New York Times Best Sellers list – of course there are lots of people writing get-rich-quick-flipping-property books so there's still an element of luck for this one book to find success
Starts appearing on morning TV shows being interviewed on his success
Property millionaire cum book author cum TV personality starts selling seminars that just deliver the same info that was in the book in the guise of being some kind of secret get-rich-quick formula
Book author franchises the operation – selling course materials and the trademark rights for other grifters to deliver those same seminars using his name brand
Property millionaire book author now makes most of his money selling course materials for grifters and not from property or books

    Frant time! 😃
It's sad that there are people with so little integrity… making money out of others in such a dishonest way.
Thanks for the great content, you deserve so much support.

I love your channel, Fran. And I think you are the most honest and relevant person on the medium. Your content always invigorates and informs me. I'll do what I can to support you through patreon.

All I ever sought from making YouTubes was 15 or 20 followers in different places who liked and would tell me they benefited from my observations. That wasn't in the works. That's too simple.
