I remember looking at these engine for high school science, and my conclusion (as a high schooler), it was all achieved with very complex plumbing.
A very informative video. I am captivated by the Saturn V. I have nearly every book written about it. And each one has always taught me something new. I actually downloaded the F-1 familiarization manual. (And read it cover to cover.) The realization of how this engine worked flawlessly is mind blowing.
When they quit going to the moon, the shouldn’t have stop manufacturing the rocket motors because they could make billions on them if they had them stored and started selling them now.
Really enjoyed this video. Back in elementary school our class had an Apollo astronaut visit. I forget his name or his mission number. At the end of his talk he asked us if we had questions. My hand shot up. I asked: What does it feel like during lift off? He replied that it really wasn't uncomfortable at all. The astronaut just snugs down into the cushioning layers of the couch. I had hoped for something more exciting but there you go. The Saturn 5 was a comfy ride!
The starting up slower is brilliant because we recently seen what happens to the launch when you blast the concrete under a rocket all at once.

Does anybody know if this (F-1) engine was the single most powerfull liquid fueled rocket engine ever built to this date? I like almost all liquid fueled rocket engines, I read a lot about Robert Goddard and his work. I think the raptor engine and the B-4 engines, or is it BE-4 engine, sorry I fogot not too sure on that one, are impressive too, but I was always just in awe by the F-1 engine, I always thought this was one @$$ kicking rocket engine thanks!

Howdy Fran, long time lurker here. Was 9 yrs old when I watch Apollo 11 launch and it still give me chills to remember.
THANKS for giving the awesome F-1 it's due!! I'm more an avionics/ systems guy but with deep respect for my brethren in propulsion.
Kudos to Elon & Tom Mueller for their revolutionary advances in rocket propulsion, but my Dad's generation came 50 years before ye an accomplished designs much farther ahead of the frontiers of technology, and all that using just slide rules!
The first 6 minutes are an amazing exposition with fantastic imagery of the engine raw thrust and the use of drawings and schematics all come together in fine F-1 fashion. Cheers to you and your love for this marvel of rocketry.

Awesome video, thank you. I have always been fascinated by this machine. I've been trying to find a good quality diecast Saturn V model but can't seem to find one.
I saw the nozzle plates all metal in seattle, they were a tad toasted and melted, looked like the mayan calendar.
The very idea that the moonshot was faked makes me beyond angry. The huge amount of hard work and engineering that it took is cheapened by the idiots that claim it was all Hollywood. It causes a small f1 engine pressure in my head! I just want to explode.
The Saturn V program was unparalleled on every level. ALL IN THE 1960s!!!!
