I hear it a lot these days: "I just don't believe the science" - and there in lies the problem. No one should 'believe' in science. You either choose to study it, learn about it, understand it, and comprehend it, or not. These days with so much technology in our lives the ability to comprehend the sciences that we depend on is more critical than ever to being an informed and centered individual - yet so many today are choosing faith based alternatives to this path, and applying these ancient philosophies to how they view technology and history. Let the Frant begin....

If more scientists were true to their profession, then they would be open-minded enough to accept and investigate phenomena that they don't yet understand. Despite the available evidence, a prime example of this is UFOs and aliens 🛸👽

Amen, Fran. People absolutely will believe complete total utter nonsense and lately the nonsense spigots have been kept wide open. The internet is a horrible place to find unbiased information. Libraries are great. 90% of the books may not be for me but we have some very big libraries and if I want a book they don't have they will borrow it from another library and I can borrow it from my library. The number of lithium ion battery fires is very hard to find on line, but it's pretty scary. I had to move because of one of the fires. It's the 3rd such fire in as many years within 150 miles, and they burn for weeks.

People get frustrated w science because the answers and recommendations change [ideally based on new data rather than bias or fundiing]. That gets frustrating when folks are making decisions for their lives and loved ones based upon "best information available". Most people want consistent answers. Hypothesis testing and statistics makes their heads hurt.
I agree with this completely. But despite that, I avoid mainstream news. I have for close to 30 years. I don't do it because of believing or not believing it, but because there is a tendency of mainstream news to try to tell us what's important and what's not. Not so much that the story on the front page is correct or lies, but that the story on the front page is something that I don't feel is important, and I want to decide for myself what's important.
Also, I just feel healthier if the mainstream news isn't a part of my life. I wake up each day feeling more positive about the world.

Libraries are outdated and a waste of taxpayer money.
Manuals I stick to manuals. Less opinions.
You know that expression "cut from the same mold" to indicate total similarity? My adaptation has always been "cut from the same slime mold" to indicate that two people are not just similar, they are disgusting in the same way. Now maybe I'd better study slime molds in case the gunk of them is actually glorious . . .
Believing the science is settled on climate change caused by CO2 is exactly the same as religious belief. Deniers are heretics despite the mountains of evidence contradicting the established belief.
Thanks. Karl Popper says all of science is provisional. There are no scientific facts. This gives us hope that the future will be better. Religion is closed, that's to say all the facts are known, if that's the case then we are doomed to live the life of our fore bearers.
