Oh the wonderful thought of controlling your Life Support and Oxygen systems with a mobile app, on an iPhone, only to find your subscription has run out.

You should just see this for what it is.
A prop to tell a story.

I'm all for new tech. But… If I was an astronaut. I would much prefer the mechanical simplicity and reliability of actual valves, knobs and buttons over anything that can fail with some misplaced scratch, static electricity, EM-waves or random micro meteorite.

I mean. If the OS becomes unresponsive, how is the wearer supposed to reverse the modal fluctuations of the sinusoidal dingle-arm? For all I know, the flim flam superconductur is fun and all, but a real turbo encabulator really should be the way to go for real magneto reluctance in the various scenarios where resistive and bidirectional electrical anticurrents are expected to fulmigate to concerning levels.

Yeah, the fact that the thing on the test stand at Boca Chica looks nothing like any of the glossy CGI images they've made for the lander suggests to me that this thing won't be touching down on the moon any time in the foreseeable future.

    Delightful

i bet the suit's color was because it's a demo suit meant to be handled a lot, and white gets dirty and janky lookin fast.

Touch screens seem to be all the rage these days, so how about a touch sensitive helmet faceplate with a HUD projected on the inside?

I assume the spacesuit is a concept design, not the real thing as that is proprietary. Like almost all companies never reveal what they really have until it enters the market. Regarding lunar lander, I have yet to see what it looks like. Grumman showed what they proposed in early 60s (I think they started the concept before awarded contract in 1962). Few years later they had some hardware where astronauts can do training, mission planners can outline missions. Though Apollo had a hard schedule, Artemis does not, but is there something that astronauts can begin training? Planners to determine what capabilities are to outline missions? Old guy here and I remember in elementary school (mid 1960s) I knew **exactly** what Apollo hardware was to be flown to the moon. I have no idea what Artemis is except Orion and SLS. I don't understand the Gateway, I'm curious what the lunar lander looks like and how it will work. OK I know some you saying "oh you need to do your research!" Hey, how are my tax dollars being spent? I'd like to see how they can safety send someone to the moon, bring them back safely, and ELI5.

There is no time limit to land the Artimis, like in the Apollo days, so, what's the rush?

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Turner says:

I thought the original Apollo spacesuits were developed and made by private companies, under contract to NASA. Just about all the Apollo hardware was outsourced, developed and made by private contractors, same with the Space Shuttle, etc.

Wheres the new spaceship? Space suits? Lol

The surface of the moon is hot. I learned something new today; and I took astronomy 😅

I wonder how ILC Dover are taking this …
