Wait - What? This isn't 1970? Yea, it looks like an early 70's film but it was released in 1990. A very late short film by Bernard Wilets that does not even appear in his IMDB page - he had made the spectacular film about Electronic Music that I posted last year. Also directed by Dianne Haak... But it is a parable about how being loose with your money slowly ruins your life. You stop enjoying pilfered candy bars. Gum becomes meaningless. You begin to hate magicians. You begin to pull out your teeth for pillow fairies. You rent serpents at high prices. You peddle your own flesh for incomplete decks of playing cards. All this and worse... awaits you. One quarter lost at a time. Shot in mostly natural light it has deep shadows and was hard to transfer to video. But hey - Enjoy.....

Man, what wouldn't I do with five dollars… I could rent so many snakes! Or one snake for so many hours!

The kid would have had most of his money if he wasn't such a degenerate gambler!

I used to have a 1-eyed bear, too! And now I have 6 or 7 walkie-talkies. So cheer up, little boy. There's still hope.

Yeah, is it just me, or did Alexander go from typical, clueless silly kid to okay, maybe this child has an intellectual disability by the halfway point? Nicky practically says "Give me more of your money, chump! I'll make it disappear," and he's like, "Hmm, seems like a reasonable plan."

Being THIS obsessed with money as a small child is just WILD

I can't believe this was made in 1990. Looks like much earlier. Although the kid's financial acuity is pretty familiar.

That really did look like it was out of the '70s. Right up until I saw mom's kitten heels under her jeans.

But he has a story to tell and I for one am grateful. Maybe that's the thing of greater value.

Kiddo could get up early, walk to school, then offer the bus tokens at half price at stops on the way home.
