Allow ads – monetize
This is the first of your videos I have run across. I do not like to subscribe because I don't want to get a bunch of emails or notifications. What I would like to have is a searchable list of topics with enough info that I can easily find a topic of interest or to go back to review a video I have previously seen. YouTube really seems to push viewers to subscribe. Perhaps many viewers click subscribe as though it was a like button in appreciation of that particular video. Almost no one has time to watch everything they like. Perhaps YouTube is paid essentially by subscription by advertisers. You on the other hand are paid primarily by views. Have you checked with other YouTube presenters? Do they have a similar response level?
Youtube wants to make money. Videos that are not monetized are ranked secondary.
I watch all your videos as soon as they appear on my pc.
Fran, the same happens to me on my channel, exact the same.
I've been subscribed for a while, but I just made sure to hit the "bell" so I should get notified about all the videos, we'll see if it helps!
i don't watch all videos, some aren't really interesting for me…
youtube alghoryth sucks…
I like you and I think I sometimes enjoy watching someone tinker with electronics at a workbench, however, I have very little time for youtube, and often want to spend that time learning some very specific things from authors who have vast expertise in a specific field. Like how to troubleshoot a switching power supply, once you tested all the el-caps and found they are not the culprit.? It takes a lot of hands-on experience for someone to address that. None the least of which is that you need float your scope off the ground in order to work on an SMPS.
And I have a lot of responsibilities, have to have dinner with my family, help kids with homework, do some house chores. take a shower, it exhausts all the 4 hours of free time I have in the evening.
When I watch youtube tech videos, I need a quick fast-talking expert who has hard-core answers condensed into a short time to my circuit problem, more so than "freestyle discussions".
You may have a lot of free time on your hands, however that is atypical for many engineers these days.
Hi Fran,I think all your videos are great.
I'm looking forward to becoming a Patron as soon as I can afford it.
Please don't be discouraged.
Cheers from South Australia.
I subscribed one or two years ago and really enjoyed your content and then you disappeared! I was in a panic because I thought you called it quits, although I refused to believe you had given up without a fight. Even though I was a longtime subscriber you apparently had vanished and YouTube, as far as I could tell. Then a few days ago I accidentally stumbled onto one of your videos and was able to (re)subscribe again. So something strange is afoot at YouTube.
So, this video was published on the 1st, today is the 24th. I barely watch a video, of any channel, on the day it is published, I only add it to my Watch later list. Currently there are ~ 50 in, and I intend to watch them in chronological order, that's why I go from the Watch later page to the channel (instead clicking on play) to be sure I do not skip a video, and watch the videos from the channel page.
Mostly watch them on weekends, like today, and during the week only short videos (max. 20mins).
I'm also a patron to this channel, and even when I'm watchin all of the videos I'm like three weeks behind, but able to catch up on bad weather weekends 🙂
i like some of your work, but a good amount of it doesn't resonate with me. i started watching your channel when you were talking about the nemo tube, very interesting. i really like watching things about interesting technology, sometimes repair videos. a lot of your stuff is a bit too technical for the average joe. if you have ever seen techmoan, thats the kind of the format that resonates with me more. maybe the pace on some of your videos is a bit slow as well, maybe chop it up some in editing. also, one of my favorite videos was where you went through the school lab. really sucks what they did though.
Is a sub., and gets notifications
You need to up the game with your thumbnails etc.. Watch videos by Brian G Johnson TV, NickNimmin to optimize your channel and content, and then watch Roberto Blake on how to increase revenue.

Main reason is most subscribers only interested in with one type of content you create, if they see anything different they will not watch
