Like Candy! But don't try to eat them! I side track a project I'm working on to highlight a component that no one would see otherwise - my own tiny removable programmable mini audio cartridges that can hold 20 second sound clips. It just seemed like it would be a cool thing to share with you. Enjoy!

Noticed the gloves ๐Ÿ™‚ guess you are not fond of gluing your fingers together.

Loved the new template that you are using today! Very nice proyect! I really enjoy the apdcm set to 4 bits and 8khz that this chip plays. Would be nice if it cames with a built-in mp3 encoder, wouldnt it? Haha

I was thinking, maybe an audio recorder that goes into exchangeable memory chips? The non volatile kind.

That or equip this little things with like a mic and small battery so you can take a few and just collect sound samples to play with.

Looks like a perfect Arduino project for the player /recorder. might be easier to make the mating connector using a custom PCB mounted in a printed shell to use the existing board sans 100 Mil header.

    very nice

at some point those cartridges will need a mini player (or dock technically if the cartridge has all the stuff built in). Or make a really weird but fun sampler that uses the cartridges. Cool project.

    Make a music machine โ€œchip tunes โ€œ

Another interesting use would be to put a chip on it that alters the audio in some way, and each card could be put in an effects pedal for a different effect.

Maybe this card fits in pci /vga slot connector?

You're very strange for an elder lady, but i like that you create cool stuff.

cool, have a very retro feel.

Hey, you seem to have the same curse I have when it comes to crafting pin connectors like that – they're not all exactly even or level after a couple of insertions/removals. One thing I found helps a lot is to run a little line of super glue along the backside right where the pins go into the plastic strip there after you're done soldering, so once that dries it forms a nice retention strip that balances the pins off each other and keeps them at least all consistent even if you DO push hard enough to press them in. Which it also prevents, mostly.
Thanks again for another fun video! I can't wait to play around with a few of these myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

Huh. So there's a good chance then that those little "voice boxes" that Build-A-Bear uses have basically one of these, a push contact switch, speaker, and batteries in them and that's it? (Well, the older ones at least, as I understand they've recently switched to reprogrammable ones that can have sound files securely programmed via NFC or something similar.) Now that I think about it, if that's true, it might also have something to do with these being so readily available on the open market for so cheap now. I imagine a lot of manufacturers would have a surplus of stock on-hand after such a drastic supply shift with a major consumer market client like BAB.
Edit: or perhaps those birthday cards with music in them as they open – that'd explain the pinout for the 2nd playback button (only while closed)

    Lovely

Okay – so people commenting about keying the cartridge… Yes, do that! I actually ended up as an afterthought putting a red dot with a sharpie over pin 1 on the top side. But by all means go nuts with your own designs!
