    I use adjustable dti stand with magnetic base to true up work in an independent 4 jaw chuck.A good investment Fran.

    A three jaw chuck's accuracy can be ruined if not using true round stock,eg never grip black rolled steel bar etc.

    That what you are using is a Dti gauge, a micrometer is similar to a vernier or digital calipers but with more of an accurate reading.

    Hello Fran, nice video.ย Just a suggestion you can also make a dial indicator holder using 3/8" square key stock, 3 – 3.5" long. Drill and tap a 1/4×20 thread on the side of the key stock at one its ends to hold the indicator then install it into your tool post in place of a cutting tool. Now you can do fine adjustments to the indicator just by turning your cross slide handle.

    I prefer the 4-jaw because I can get the runout darn close to zero with just a little bit of fiddling; and unless you have a set-tru type 3-jaw, thereโ€™s no adjustment on a 3-jaw.

    do a search on Youtube for THIS: Magnetic Base Dial Indicator Usage, also, you can search the same on amazon..they are like 15 bucks and are VERY versatile….I use one very frequently on both my lathe and milling machine
