On February 15, 2014 the Franklin Institute brought together a group of clock makers, conservators, and engineers for a day-long meeting to discuss the Maillardet Automaton, and at the conclusion of the day's talks we were all treated to a very rare private performance of all seven renderings of this amazing 214 year old machine that was the inspiration for the film Hugo. Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing. I do wish the museum would make full-length videos of the automation in action, with high-quality camera and lighting, and no commentary or music. There's very little good footage to be found on YouTube.
Isn't there an automaton in the "What I am" New Bohemians video? An orchestra conductor?
I want one.

What happens to the renderings? Did you each get to keep one?
thanks
Is the robots head modeled after the girl standing behind to the left? If so why?
Absolutely astonishing. 😀

This is an amazing piece of engineering, thanks for sharing!
Guess a lot of artists are gunna be out of work! Incredible!
