So very sickening how GREEDY these money hungry ‘—-‘-‘ are so bent on us not playing even a clip of their coveted “golden” tunes. Songs that are 25 years and older should be in public domain. Someday these GREEDY thugs will get their just reward! They should be thankful we still like older songs. Soon, we will be gone and the younger ones will not care about the older songs.

Regarding music copyright: YouTube ContentID administration companies (such as Identifyy or AdRev) do distinguish composition copyright from mechanical (or publishing) copyright. This is what record labels need to take into account when registering their "covers" of public domain works, such as classical music or folk songs. Claiming the composition copyright on such works would be illegal; but mechanical is okay.
In the past, I've had a major record labels claim that some of my classical music live performances are actually taken from their CDs. 😆As an antidote to that circus, I've begun to first stamp the masters of EVERYTHING to the ContentID myself before uploading any self-produced music to YouTube videos. That way, there's bit-precise proof in the ContentID system in place against such a fraudulent claim. (Actually, haven't seen any since.)

I was in a band in 1985. We covered a song that was by a major recording artist. Last year I posted an audio performance of my old band covering that song, but playing another dozen songs we wrote. I pretty quickly got a cease and desist letter from someone representing the record company. YouTube ended up deleting our whole performance. It was not monetized.
Till someone sues them in court they will keep it up
you absorb bits of published music that may become part of you and as a music composer parts of those bits may unconsciously appear in your compositions. i wonder how would an algorithm may configure that, not to speak of artificial intelligence created stuff.

I'm hearing impaired (85% hearing loss) and I was hit with a YT music strick. It seems that while shooting a video my camera picked up music coming from a store that I was near. A quick delete of the video was necessary. So I guess I'm a 1-time loser (3 and I'm gone).
America has the most insane copyright laws on the planet. 100 years is nuts. I think after the author is dead, the work should become public domain after 25 years at most.
