I'm a space nut. I watched the first Mercury suborbital and orbital flights as they happened. I followed all the Gemini flights even going so far as to keep track of what number orbit they in. As I said I'm a space nut. When Apollo 11 landed on the moon I set up a 35 mm camera in front of our TV (There were no home VCRs back then) and shot pictures off of the screen of Armstrong and Aldrin on the Moon. I recently scanned them to digital. Too bad you can't attach images to YouTube comments… For me the Apollo 11 Moon landing was like my birthday, Christmas day & the first day of summer break all rolled into one. I feel sorry for those that didn't live through that unbelievable time. It was mind bendingly wonderful. And it was a time of American technology and ingenuity at it's greatest. The Moon landing was a bright spot in an otherwise tumultuous but pivotal decade for humanity. Thanks Fran for taking me down memory lane.
Guess what I got at the local hospital thrift shop this past Saturday?
The 4 DVD HBO set of From The Earth To The Moon, in the silver sleeve with the Program Guide. $3!!! Sweet!
fun fact: the Life coverage was part of the various lucrative deals that came with being an astronaut – $16,000 in the mid 60's, almost double their basic pay!
Thanks for sharing.
👍👍
Oh just rub it in that I am old..I was 1 Year old when the moon landing happened..HEHE
Hi! This is Fran on the moon. FranMoon.
Awesome collection! Mania indeed! I have a few interesting space-things myself – should perhaps also make a video, I just thought. Those vinyl LP records you showed, reminds me of some of the crazy stuff I have. I'm also a steam enginge fanatic and I have one LP record and a three-CD set of train sound recordings! There is nothing like a high fidelity recording of a steam engine, racing right through your living room, with the sounds cranked up all the way! Sorry, call us crazy if you like!
I have a Paul Calle print, "The Great Moment" signed by Neil Armstrong and two other prints from Alan Bean" Helping Hands" and "What it's like to be on the Moon". I had the life magazine and a Revell's Saturn 5…great times:o)
Yes I enjoyed all this,
The black flames from the F1 engines looks awesome, I wish I was around to had seen the launches!
No one ever talks about Mike Collins!
