China Junk
Did it come in a crate stamped ACME?
It's a Peace of Junk.
I'm usually on the same wavelength with you Fran, but you paid $20 for it, just like I did, and the truth is, it works better than I ever expected it to. It's not a precision tool by any means but it serves a purpose for those of us of very limited means.
A few more cents and that thing could have been decent…
Did you test the thing before taking it apart? There must be something in the lab you can use for verifying its accuracy.
Cool Gear Fran Blanche
It probably works fine, once or twice!! I think a lot of people buy them for a certain project, and then leave them in a drawer till they die. The thing concerning me the most is that bearing. I wonder if it has play in it to make up for heat expansion? Nah, I can't see that either. MAKE one!! I know you could.
The Chinese waste sooo much energy on making CRAP, that ends up in the landfill, why isn't Greta bitching at them?
I donโt want to go all Marie Kondo on you, but regretting when you purge some unwanted stuff is a form of reverse survivorship bias. There were probably hundreds of things you tidied up, and never thought about them again.
Ok, that was just fun to watch.
How simple am I to please?
Fairly!
The intro animation is very ๐
Fran, build your own , your certainly clever enough.
Can you return it?
Fran, checkout the Briggs & Stratton 19200 Tachometer, also known as Treysit sirometer. Less than $25 on Amazon. It works and is accurate +/- 2% as I recall.
I use my cheap contact tach a few times a week. In 3 years it hasn't failed me. I'm just careful with it.
There is a lot of talk about the shaft, but as far as I can see, if the tip won't fit snug in the shaft adapter, it's like throwing a hotdog in the closet. Useless!
It is made to accept thrust load not radial load . It only has to touch the shafts center . You cannot read rpm off of the circumference of a shaft or pully . Do not use screwdrivers to pry on things , right ?
the 40 people who disliked this video, I'd bet are affiliated with, or they are the people who made this pile of $hit.
