Thank you for showing us this Fran
So cool to see running… NGL was a little disappointed not seeing it run last vid. Awesome stuff!!
So: they split illumination from eight bulbs with light pipes to make it look like some 36 teensy bulbs? So clever!
But can't the internet find all the documentation for such a device? Why do we have to reverse engineer everyting?
Many many years ago I made a one digit counter using a uniselector and a bunch of telephone exchange relays. The display was made from a great bunch of 'dial lights' scavenged from quite a few early push button TV's (no security at the local tip when I was 10ish). Each segment had 4 lamps – 4 by 6.3 for a 48V supply – as used to run the relays etc.
With an '8' on this display, the lamps were pulling 40W, it did a good job of lighting up my bedroom.
I never did try it outside in the sun, for it's daylight abilities, anyway it was big and very noisy, not in anyway practical so it got tossed may years ago – pity.
U wondered if you've ever messed with stepper motor drivers or servo motor drivers? I'm an amateur astrophotographer and I plan on building and coding my own go to telescope mount one day. Just curious if you've tinkered with anything like that. I have and Orion HDX 110 go to mount. It's a monster with a hundred and ten pound weight capacity. Not a portable mount but I don't own my own dark sky site yet, so I do drag that thing to west Texas two or three times a year. It's really easier to just buy a small portable rig but I'd actually like to go bigger than what I have once I get a place.
I knew you couldn't just put it back in the box. But you didn't buzz / beep out the circuits… yet. I suspect one sleepless night you'll get back to making a schematic for the circuit and run it. This is why I"m a Patreon.
Hey thatโs cool. Love it.
Now imagine tiny gels inserted over the bulbs to make each segment a different color
Very glad you got it fired up! The dissection was quite interesting. The trouble people went to… Your universal driver board is amazing!
thanks or the awesome follow up Fran ๐
Nice to see it in action.
