————- cute neon like digital display's had hyperactivity disorder ….. running quicker than JesseOwens did back n '36 ….. hey FL
I can remember the petrol pumps at my local garage had this type of display..
its not an led display, its not a nixie display, its not a vacuum fluorescent display,
ITS A PANAPLEX DISPLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I used to have just shit loads of those displays and threw them away over the years thinking they weren't worth anything. Boy I was WRONG ! I remember it took the tough sn74ls48 and sn74ls47 to drive them. There mostly used now in avionics for easy reading, harsh environments. Very elegant display for any project. Now I enjoy playing around with dl1414 displays.
Why gloves?
The lack of sockets is rather disturbing.
I have been using these methods for decades. Built plenty of LED digital counters but never tried using numitron displays.
Boy, does THIS blow out the cobwebs in the brain! I first encountered these at a junk run many decades ago and I thought they were extinct! Nice video! Thanks!
Hi Fran. Thanks for the inspration – I've been messing with nixies and LED 7 and 16 segment displays but didn't know about these Numitrons. I managed to get a couple of them but they only have 13 pins and the only marking on them is 5FZ which hasn't helped me find any info. So if you or any of your followers can help me to identify them it would be appreciated. Keep up the good work!
These were used in the UK for the Gilbarco Highline 1 petrol pumps in the 70s, The Gilbarco highline 2 had some unique 8 segment displays never seen them anywhere else, thinks you might find them interesting
It's all your fault, now I've gone off on a tangent and have built 74LS90, 74LS93, 74LS193, CD4510, CD4516, 74LS47, 74LS154, CD4511, CD 4026, CD4017, CD4024, CD4040….Maybe one of the grandkids will get interested in electronics
I hear no issues with sounds. clean actually. I am seeing problems with AVG hogging resources and causing wierd squeals, and two TV players that auto start and freeze the lappy up for a minute or two. Now burned off the system. Thank you and Cheers Fran.
fran when i power up for the first time "Adjust for smoke"
Thanks for another amazing video. π
