Performance by Howard Hayes, one of a set of four reels in my collection of recordings made in the late 1940's in Liberia by Arthur Alberts. I believe these 7-1/2 IPS mono copies I have were made in the early 1960's by Roberts himself from his own original master tapes. No copyright implied. Enjoy!

Is that a Roberts 770X? Did you refurbish it so it works acceptably? I so longed for one of these back when I was in High School in the early 70's.
"I'll milk a bush cow for you"!
What a heartwarming song, even though it sounds like he's actually saying he won't go milk the bush cow for her, haha. Clean, quality music. Thank you Fran! I'd milk a bush cow for you any day ๐
I chuckled at the cat too.
I'm surprised you can "get away" with playing Public Domain music on youtube without getting copyright strikes. I was using 80 and 90 year old PD music and would get 2 or 3 copyright strikes on every single video I uploaded. I had never monetized my videos, but once the scam companies put a copyright claim on my video they would put ads on my videos. They were making money from my videos. It's a huge scam that youtube allows. I was getting Copyright claims from companies in places like India or Asia that had maybe produced a CD compilation of Public Domain music, and apparently thought that gave them a Copyright on that music. I got copyright claims on music I had paid for the right to use, and even got copyright claims on music I wrote, performed, and recorded myself. Claiming copyright on Public Domain music is against the law, yet youtube allows these scams to go on. I eventually got tired of fighting it and just deleted all my videos about the middle of 2017.
Vintage…. Absolutely!
Haha…. they could use a little practice, but that was fun. Thanks for sharing.
Great! you have the Akai M9 reel to reel.
That was great!
Brilliant.
Now this is how music should be done! With folks who are genuinely having fun, and performing for the love of it. I especially liked the female harmony, she's not exactly on time, but it's ideal for this recording. Heads (no pun intended) above and lively. Certainly not the modern overprocessed auto-tuned sterilized mess done by 6 writers, 8 producers, and says the same line 27 times.
Are those tapes the originals? I am surprised if they are, as I would think they would lose the magnetic coating as the tape ran through the mechanism.
did you optimize tape head azimuth? dont do it if there are any wear marks on the head.
You didn't loop the tape through the left flutter filter arm.
Fran, i have been told by most whom know me i have an exceedingly wide ranging eclectic taste in music. i think you exceed me in that regard…. perhaps. I like that tune. I very much like the honesty of it. Feel free to dig into the collection and put one out once and a while….i would look forward to that. Thank You for sharing Fran.
It sounds like they had a good time recording that. It's lovely to hear such amazing music from Liberia. It's such a shame that this country has suffered so much in recent years.
