Time for another Treasure From The Vault - this time it's another gizmo from the University of Pennsylvania haul years back. No teardowns in the Vault, sorry. Enjoy!

I had no idea these used liquid ink. Thanks for sharing, super cool!
I saw a 2 channel chart recorder, kinda like this, at a thrift shop years back while volunteering. I asked what they wanted for it. They told me they'd probably let me have it for $25, but they had to check if they could sell it to me at that price… I came back the next day, and no one had any idea what even happened to it… I was very bummed out.
Super interesting but of kit, really enjoy this type of content.
I have wanted one of these so bad for years!
You see those in old movies and TV shows where they use a lie detector.
Those input connectors are a connector family that used to be used in lots of instrumentation, industrial, military, etc. electronics. Search "circle hex connector" to start finding some leads.
I would love to see this thing powered up.
Really interesting ๐ Showing things from the vault should be a regular event for sure!
It looks to me like the silver bar goes under the needles and drops down to hold the paper flat against the bed while it's in use, then lifts up to halt the ink flow. (?)
The power connector looks like a 3pin M16 type but with a different type of keying.
This is how Lots of Out puts were read kids!
my Grandfather used one similar in th military for weather readouts!
Love seeing all the treasures in your Lab. From the looks it would take a lot of time. Gems!
Looks like the lying end of a polygraph setup.
Edit:. A quick Google seems to back up my assertion about this for a polygraph setup. You can buy one on eBay, just like this one, for $399. Something tells me that using only one drive roller for the paper leads to some temperamental issues.
Hook it up to a Scientology e-meter. ๐
Hi Fran. If you want to go deeper into the uses of these machines – it looks like a polygraph, doesn't it? – you can probably find a manual online. Is the company still in business?
Thanks!
Not that model, but they had something very similar at my last job. I think these Vault videos are great….
