Can you buy the little display units? (the three on the front V101-V103)
Several years ago I had a flickering seconds display and couldn't find a SP-352 to replace it with at a decent price. I found where I could purchase three digit displays (SP-353) for $5 each and was able to use one of them in the seconds position by cutting the pins from the right digit and moving the interfering transitors to the back of the circuit board. Been working great since.
Our clock was bought already built and was a gift from my Aunt in 1975 or 76, it has worked fine until today
12- 27- 2021. However due to snow and a power outage we went on a generator and the plug vibrated out of the generator and the power flickered on and off. Once I restored the power the clock no longer worked. Can somebody repair it or can I buy a prebuilt new one? I am not sure I have the ability to build a new one myself.
We really like this clock! Can anybody help?…Bill Rogers
I hope you get it fixed, meet old health kit, people seem to be collecting ,heath kit stuff .
seriously? are you planning to replace working 40 years old good capacitors with chinese chengx awful caps which will break after two years? I lost all respect for you…
You have to set the clock yo clear the 888888 that comes up when you plug it in.
a little jolt from the cap won't hurt you. Those old caps need to go. My 1005 needed new caps.
This inspired me to dig out my old Heathkit. Every display is dead. I even tested them on straight HV to be sure. Sad. And there seems little point trying to source NOS displays, though I guess it might be possible to get the clock working for some worthwhile period… Sure hope my other Panaplex gizmos hold out. And man…those socket pins. What crap. I remeber even new, the surface finish sucked. When I pulled the displays, a total of three pins came out too. Good old Heathkit. Gotta both love & hate them…
I giggle at your giddy when the display raises a number…lol. π
I was doubting youβd fried the clock chip. I worked at Mostek for years back in the 70s, as a QA engineer, and never killed one, and Iβve handled thousands. My buddy rigged up one of our phone chips at his house and the running bet was to see if anyone could zap it after shuffling across the rug. No one ever did, after years of βtestingβ. Most mosfet ICs are much more resilient than people realize.
There's life in the old girl yet!
Well that was hilarious π I was in the grocery store and my phone unlocked itself and went onto YouTube, Franlab wooooo hooo qwuickeee π it was loud π
