Really just a way to squeeze some extra units out of the production of Spinwelder tools, this is really not hitting the mark by a long shot. Welcome to being a Girl in the 70's! Enjoy!

Some plastics just dry out and get very brittle over time.
Hi Fran! Good to see you…
A spinwelder for the spinster
I had almost forgotten spinwelding. Plastic over time absorbs moisture and becomes brittle and doesn't melt as easily. Something I learned from 3D printing.
Growing up as a boy with no sisters, I didn’t even know this product existed. I had the Spin Welder to make the dragster and such. If I had sister at the time, I would have been happier for her to help me on my projects rather than have her deal with this stuff.
Looks like they used a young Kim Richards to model for that box cover. Not really surprised. She was a big deal as a kid back in the day.
Hey Fran :):):) If you look closer at the $1.50 price tag/sticker, you'll notice two S's stacked to the left of the K…that is from S.S. Kresge stores!!! I completely forgot about those stores from the 70's back when I was a kid :):):) Dan G. 🙂
Don't remember those but did have a foam cutter. It had a hot wire that you could use to cut up foam sheets or old food trays to make artworks out of. Probably good for 3rd degree finger burns too!
My family was poor so my sister and I didn't get too many of the really cool toys back then.
Oh, man. I'd forgotten all about these. My older sister used to pin me down and Spinweld "NERD" on my chest. She grew up to be an aeronautical engineer, so I guess these toys weren't all THAT bad for teaching little girls engineering.
It's probably a combination of effects; the "permanent" magnets in the motor getting weaker, and the plastic perishing.
Or maybe it was never much good in the first place. Even any Super 8 footage from the time will be on film that is likely to have gone bad, so we'll probably never know either way.
A heated tip would work so much better, and yup that plastic deteriorated a bit over the years.
Appears to be Paris Hilton’s aunt Kim Richards.
the young lady on the box looks like Kim Richards, from Escape from witch mountain ect.
Fran: That motor's so weak.
Fran: <gets a modern torque engine>
Fran: I'm making my LOVE sign, and nothing is stopping me!
XD
I can only wonder how many kids got in trouble for SpinWelding their fancy clothes.
Speaking of educational toys for kids, I don't think I have ever seen a FranLab dealing with Crystal Radios. This must be remedied!!
I remember as a little girl figuring out that this was not real metal and it was just plastic. I asked for a chemistry set instead.
