Trigger Warning for organizational nerds! Meticulously ordered parts bins while sure nice to have while they lasted. RIP little parts.... you remain now scattered in a rented moving truck.

Ugh….. Movers don't give a crap about your stuff…
For my last move I wrapped each and every little drawer in cling film for this exact reason and came out unscathed. I guess though that you have many more drawers than me.
Ohhh no. I feel your pain.
Happened to me many years ago. I had a very similar system.
Threw it out when it happened and replaced it with boxes that have a sealing lid. More expensive but no more problems. I have moved a few times since then 🙄🙄
OMG! When they fill up the truck, they will rotate any box in any orientation in order to to fill any hole or gap left, from floor to ceiling. That's why this is the kind of stuff I personally move… I know, easy to say that after the fact.
Had similar experience, just dump everything in a large tray and start sorting while you watch TV or listen to music. Will take time but you'll get it all back in the trays, sorted, I'm sure.
This is just terrible! Super unqualified movers I would say. If you have instructions then you care about what you're doing. Best of luck with sorting out what to do next Fran.
I'm about to go thru a move. I've been given the choice of whether to pack myself or let the company pack for me. Guess which I chose… not that it seems to matter. At least, all my stuff is more likely to arrive, in whatever condition, if I pack it myself. Feel for ya, Fran.
So sorry to see that Fran, heartbreaking to see the mess – knowing it will takes days to put right, and no doubt some of it will never be right – components not being marked etc. I would never trust a moving firm with my parts bins, I always take them myself. But just so maddening that the people you pay to move stuff really don't care about it. I bet that if they had to pay you for the many hours it will take you to put right they would not be laughing.
Aldi has a selection of multi drawer cabinets last time I went.
Oh. And moving companies only insure your items by the pound. Some stuff you have to move yourself.
Ziploc baggies are your friend for the next time. Just pull each drawer out, dump into the bag, and close, and put back in the drawer. That keeps them all together, and even if the movers break the entire box at least if the baggie is there it will be fine.
Of course, in the USA you cannot buy ziploc bags in bulk for some reason, but here I have no problem getting them in bulk. I can also just go to the bank and get a roll or two of them, used to hold coins.
I'd enjoy sorting through all the tiny bits and grouping them properly together. Go ahead. Call me weird. I used to excuse all of my employees on inventory day (completely true) and count the store myself. More accurate, faster, and no consternation.
Oh Fran, that is just not peachy at all…If I was able to, I would love to help you re-sort and organize all those part bins with you…I hope that the rest of the move goes well for you.
I had my parts bins done exactly the same on one of my moves even with boxes marked "This side up". Sorry it seems to be that if the box rattles the movers LOVE to turn it upside down! 🤬
Fran, I feel your pain. Hours and hours of sorting gone. Hours of sorting to come. The only plus in this is you discover some things that you didn’t know you had. 😉
Oh, it's a pity… When I was moving my electronics lab, I wrapped each one of them drawers with stretch foil, then wrapped the whole thing. Lots of work and material for sure, but it reduces a potential disaster to a mere inconvenience of just a few resistors falling out and breaking loose. Nothing too serious.
Guess that's what you get when you hire the handicapped…. mentally handicapped! They don't listen, they don't care, they just want the money!
So sorry this happened to you! You did not deserve this! All the movers had to do was listen to you! After all, you are paying them and they are working for you!
That really sucks, but at least it wasn't anything worse. I imagine if you look on the ground where they loaded and unloaded the truck along with took them up stairs there will be a puddle of components somewhere, looks like they dropped the entire crate upside down or something in order to mix all those components up and break that plastic. Could have also fallen over while in the back of the truck.
I suspect I will try to borrow a car to transport most of my stuff when I have to move, but I imagine that wasn't an option for you in dense metro high rises with no parking?
We moved 2 1/2 years ago. We still can't find stuff. I know that our movers lost some stuff that never showed up. File cabinets were turned upside down. Some parts suffered the same fate that you showed, sometimes smalls that broke out of their packing were loaded into spare boxes, a random mix of resistors, capacitors, very small screws became hardware soup. Not a lot of fun.
