A new Heathkit? Yep! And it's been in the queue for over a year! Hard to believe, but the time has come to get into this box and build myself a brand new Heathkit clock. You know the drill with these Heathkit builds - I take my time, so this will be a multi-part series. Here's part one - so Enjoy!

I took a Bell & Howell (DeVry Institute of Technology) in the mid 70s. The course including building an O'Scope, a DVM, a fancy proto board, and a 25" color TV. Loved all the kits and all of them worked.
I went on to build some other kits including a clock and a 2-meter rig.
Just ordered the GC1006 and cant wait to get it and start on it. I have watched all 4 of your videos on the GC1006 and they have been been very informative!!!
Thanks!!!!!
I just love watching you assemble these Heathkit projects. You go thru it very methodically. I know nothing about the guts of electronics but have always had a fascination. Thanks Fran. Please keep them coming.
I built one of these two years ago and it has been working fine. It’s a pity the company itself has not done more, there a piece of amateur radio gear which has been in pre-production forever. Sadly, I think this clock is all we’ll see. I have a stash of 100 unbuilt kits to keep me busy in retirement.
Here comes a comment, exactly 2 years after you posted this video. Of course I've seen it before, but a Heathkit transceiver restoration video by Peter from TRX Lab (was TRX Bench) got me curious about what has become of the "new" Heathkit company and unfortunately from what I see from their web site, nothing much. There is promise of a new "Precision RF Meter" on presale at $575, which they claim to match any professional meter that sells for "a price of a car". Also this clock is still available, but IMHO at a price of $125, it doesn't deliver much. I would expect it to be at least RTC driven since there is an MCU inside, but it seems to rely on 60 Hz mains frequency, which makes it unusable for the most parts of the world. In short, I really don't expect to see the glory days of Heathkit come again if they don't come up with a competitive game plan, price and product wise. I wish you a happy new year and best regards from Istanbul!
The language is definitely Chinglish or EngEse
I sure do miss the old Heathkit. Used to go down to there old store in 8 Mile Road in Detroit to get what I wanted. First thing I built was their Color TV for my parents. I still have that TV and it still works
As I'm watching, there are various things that keep giving me the idea that China bought the company and is using Heathkit to feed its economy…
Your terrific!! Thanks
Where the original kits this experience?
I love building kits but not much time lately. I’ll live vicariously through you building them. Awesome video as always!!!!
My first 2 meter radio was a Heathkit, it used a Motorola t03 transistor for the output.
Typos I understand, the language in this booklet sounds like it was never edited properly.
So the arrival of affordable computers was the cause of the great schism in the computer/electronics enthusiasts world…
Good to see the build, but jeez; $100 for the clock, plus two days' effort; whereas off-the-shelf clock radio (that only needs 2xAA backup) is ~$8.
Or a clock kit from AliExpress comes in around $5…
