Part five has me finishing up the first major parts of the assemblies and I begin putting it all together. With Glue - the best glue I can use. Which kind is that you ask? Well I'll tell you! Enjoy!

Ya know, Fran… if the original Apollo 11 capsule had been made out of walnut, it would have the Wood Block II…
Looking great. The mention of "Titebond III" reminds me that I am using a bottle of "Titebond" (I?) from about 20 years go. Still works like a charm.
Lost in transmission – somehow really hard to follow while many maker videos of egress appear in my list too – but 1 video for all their stuff.
Yes, learned a bit about carpenter glue … but lost mood to stay till end of video.
Thank you for your work.
Edit: Also, look at these chuds disliking.
Fran, It's good to see you back in the lab feeding your spirit by making. I'll admit it, I was concerned about you, personally, during the eviction and moves. It is great to see you kicking it again! Remember if Fran is out of order, so is the lab, so take care of you. Not because the lab would suffer, but because you deserve to be healthy and happy. And a little bit of we all get to peek into the Phactory and see you do. Peace my friend <3
Thanks Fran . All that hand finishing , i don't know how you did it you must of never slept.
Go Fran!
I like your work because you are Woman and this is tech.👍
Titebond works great! In my 22 years of woodworking… (HOLY CRAP! I started at 14 in woodshop) I've always seen the wood fail way before a glue joint, when glued properly. Also love the walnut more than oak. 😀
I wonder how tossing all these wooden parts in a vacuum chamber with a load of CA glue would work. Like stabilizing all these small parts to help with strength…. hmmm
nice to see the progress.
one thing i would like to mention, even if i thibk you do know. a brass tube with a steel pin is called "bushing" as far as i know.
a bushing i a propper way to allow slow movement with high forces. a bearing is most optimal used in high speed low force applications.
i think "this old Tony" once explained it pretty good in one of his videos.
i realy like how much thought is going into this part. especially the problems with grain allianment are tough.
Good on you Fran Titebond III is the best. I will also thin and use on end grain called sizing the miter joint and get one very strong joint.
Cool!
TB 1 has some advantages in that it dries much harder resulting in less glue creep, and the breaking strength (as is with most PVA glue) will still generally exceed the wood itself. The extra strength of TB3 is overhyped. TB3 is more flexible since its formulated for exterior use with the tradeoff that it may have more glue line creep. Best way to test glue is to break a sample in a vice with a hammer and see if the wood itself fails, or the glue. Thats a pretty good pass/fail test for testing glue joints. Nobody is going to notice glue line creep on these parts so TB3 is fine.
I WANT THAT PHONE!!!! 😍
