Number seven in the Project Egress series has me going for the finish in a very time intensive way - hand finishing all the parts and getting the fit of all the components correct. Some unexpected snags had me spending days making adjustments painstakingly by hand. Almost there... stay tuned for the conclusion in number eight!

drifting drills are a hassle! You can use a 'short flute' drill bit, or aptly named 'hole starting bit', which helps. Also a drill point countersink for lathes work, which come in different diameters. I use the to start holes.

Hey Fran, I have to say you are very talented. When I started watching your contribution I would have bet the end result of your labor wouldn't be much. Boy was I wrong. The portion of the project you fabricated is both utilitarian and a beautiful work of art. I also have to compliment you on your patience and tenacity. Good job. I'm in awe…

There are drill bits that don't have that 120ยฐ tip, they're flat, they're used for machining in general,
that could prevent the drill from following the wood.
Or maybe these special metal sheet drill bits can be used, as these take the material from the outside first.

I really loved the explanation of how you drilled the small holes

Have you done anything with single board conputers? I just started getting into Raspberry Pi stuff and would love to see what kind of unique projects you can come up with.

Absolutely fabulous engineering chops, a beautiful end product and thorough documentation make this an award-worthy contribution to YouTube. Very guzey!

That is some beautiful woodwork there. Can tell a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and love went into that.

Mighty fine. Worry not about less or lack of video. The stills do a lot of talking.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Graeme Gets says:

๐Ÿ™‚ I like that you add in all the trauma and difficulties. Its better than maker videos edited to make it look like the process was easy and perfect

Fran Patronage! – Best way to spend a buck – or two…

I hope the people who lazily pressed print on their 3D printers then popped the result in the mail feel bad when their half assed effort is installed next to your piece of art made with love, care, thought and a lot of effort. Very impressive Fran.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Cosmoslogic says:

Fran you walk the talk for sure, well done for sure.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kevin Cozens says:

Thanks for letting us tag along on your journey. Your part is coming along nicely. I've seen one person who made their part by metal casting and another person used 3D printing. Your part of the project is being done in the true NASA tradition. You are having to make the tools you need in order to make the parts. The one part of the NASA tradition is to not go over budget or over time. ๐Ÿ™‚
