Don Friggin' Knotts is The Reluctant Astronaut in this 16mm IB Tech trailer transferred from my own archive print using my Eiki Telecine. The Eiki has a 6 Blade Shutter that projects a 24fps print at 30 frames per second for a flickerless NTSC transfer. A special diffusion plate eliminates the 'hot spot' of the projector, and the sound is pulled right from the optical track.

Reminds me of the movie Rocketman with Harlan Williams.
Huh? Before I had cable as a kid, the local stations played everything that wasn't copyrighted. I don't remember this, but my kid self would've known the movie.
Watched it recently when it was on TCM or something like that. Gotta luv Don.
cool !!
If I Hit the Powerball….you just might.
Fran splicing film reminds me of Delia Derbyshire splicing audio tape…
Great movie. I watch it every year with Ghost and Mr. Chicken and The Incredible Mr. Limpet
It was a great movie when I was a Kid. I'm 65 now and still love it.
The Ghost and Mr Chicken was better.
Your opening sequence with the Griswold splicer, and the (probably) Moviola rewinds brought back some wonderful memories. And a very nice transfer it is, too.
Re: rescuing this: amazing!
Re: the movie itself: Groaaaaan!
Looks like it's gonna be fun to watch 🙂
Gorgeous transfer! Thank you!
Damn, that spacecraft's more spacious than a Crew Dragon.
I think of this movie now and then. I remember as a kid thinking someday, somehow, I would be in a position where I would save the day by knowing that when I see Hawaii out the window I should fire the retro-rockets.
This is amazing, Fran; thanks so much for sharing.
