The whole history of technology is that rich people always buy things first, then the price can drop after the TON of work is done to mass produce things to lower the cost for the majority. It is nothing new here with regard to space travel.

There is no need to hate on people just for having money, in disregard of if they aquired it by moral or immoral means.

The idea of being weightless in space is quite misunderstood, it's just falling inside a container. It's not like at a certain altitude you start floating.

This is what I say when people say something like what kind of supercar would you like. I say, the most expensive one because I would immediately sell it and put the money where it would do the most good.
I might drive it first if it wouldn't lower the value, after heavily insuring it.

Space flight for tourism only is the final frontier for capitalism. "Can we make a buck? Wait you want to do science? Purely for the expantion of technology? We can't make immediate proffits off that get outta here"

Love the Gattaca pun Fran shot out. Oh, and Fran you're in your way for a free ticket if you keep expanding your channel and who knows, there might be a millionaire within your Patrons. Alex from Spain.

I was 4 in 1969 when Apollo 11 landed on the moon (actually, almost 4 since my birthday is in October and I was born in 1965 – I am a year younger than the Vice President of the USA [I live in her home state and she got married in the courthouse in my town]). Our family was always interested in the NASA missions – and even though we didn't go up into space, we felt like we were all a part of it. If you don't believe me, watch Walter Cronkite when the first moonwalk occurred.

When you think about it the first automobiles were the domain of the super rich and so were airplanes. Perhaps space flight will become as cheap as a intercontinental flight.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Craig Cole says:

What a terrible take. Once upon a time, air travel was only affordable by wealthy. Space travel will follow the same path.

Through your sour grapes and utter contempt for capitalism, you couldn't even bring yourself to mention that US astronauts get their wings at 50 miles (80 km).

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Glen Last says:

All kudos to all the people working to make this happen! But remember that Branson finally did what was first done in 1961. 1961! Is this progress? Or a sick joke?

Mega wealth is not new. Genghis Khan would be worth multiple trillions in today's money, as would the old Assyrian and Babylonian Kings at the height of their Empires. This is a very old argument about wealth concentration. Regardless, space is dangerous. The longevity of whoever winds up living their first, no matter their $ status, is bound to be very short due to some unforeseen, uncontrollable factor. If that takes out a few billionaires who have done damage to the Earth and treated many people badly, as long as the legit science programs get useful data from it, the moral problem will have sorted itself out.

Without Branson and Musk, we would have to rely on NASA to develop space travel, and we know how that has gone. I think they will accomplish much more in a much shorter time, without wasting taxpayer money. Once they have worked out all the kinks with the millionaire passengers the cost will inevitably come down so that space travel will become affordable for the commoners.

Hadfield=hotdog. He has unfortunately become ubiquitous, he’s out over his skis, he WAS a big fish in a little pond; bah-dump-dump-tish(my imitation of a high-hat splash). Love the sarcasm!

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Quitus Maximus says:

I think this is great – these companies are paving the way to eventually make space accessible to everyone. But there is a large cavoite to that. Elon Musk is looking to colonize Mars with a million people. I am too old to be one of those but the younger generation will be able to go. And how do you get there? Make yourself useful – engineering, science, the trades (welding, electricians, plumbers), and medicine – these are the people that will be the ones going – so get an education/trade and be ready to jump at the opportunity when it comes.

If all your subscribers donated $2 each we could get you a ticket, now that's money well spent. Fran Lab live from space. Now that's worth seeing. 👍
