From the Vault to the Bench - a Tek scope that seems to need some calibration. Let's take a look!

If your probe is set to 10X you have to set the scope to 10X and the same for 1X (which I never use).
If the probe and scope aren't set the same way you will be orders of magnitude off.
Fancy scopes have probes that tell the scope if you're using 1X, 10X etc. probes but that little Tek relies on the user setting everything up themselves.
That was Frantastic
You have your scope probes setup wrong in the scope settings. When they calibrate them, they connect in where you pulled the back cover off with the cal sticker on it. All the cal adjustments done digital because the pots are digital inside the ICs. Its mostly automated now a days.
I think it's the Russian knockoff Tektronjx. Or my eyesight is going bad.
I was expecting to come across at least one tamper resistant screw head, just to screw things up… but alas… btw, scope; free… replacement calibration stickers; $27 ea.
The FranLab label was a lovely idea!
Lower port is a IEE-488 known as GPIB or HP-IB measure data exchange port – Very useful for measure automation. Tektronix oscilloscopes series 2xxx was last with passive LCD screen. You should check attenuator settigs in channels menu. Probably input attenuator is on, I remeber the same in TDS210 model.
Is the little button at the top right of screen with a slit on it the brightness control
That a great scope. I think you can download a manual for that. I got a old tube type one. nothing that new except a PC scope. just a black box with 4 BNC and USB port. works super great. I love the old heat kit test equipment most of mine has nixie displays . my B and K and fluke has VFD. once you figure that scope out it will be a lot of fun. Thay make a USB to RS232 converter and just find drivers and you can bring it to a PC. love that barcode on top. I have outher newer test equipment spectrum analyzer ETC. my 4 channel PC scope works so good and does so much . The gift back will be using it .
What an awesome score! Big thanks to the donator 🙂
Bundles of wires resting up against the sharp edge of sheet metal? Nice.
If you only do audio, a CRO is the way to go. IMHO.
