A look at one of my favorite gadgets of the past 20 years - the 2006 Cowon A2 multimedia recorder/player. I have used this tiny workhorse for so many projects over the years, and I really wish that products were this well designed and ergonomic today. Enjoy!

Ah, COWON devices. I had the G3 and later on a D2 (which I still use from time to time). Down here in Chile, only one retailer carried their products (Ripley) and had a whole selection back in the day! Unfortunately, they didn't last much on our local market but I wished they would kept selling them since they were really cool devices.

I owned it, this A2. Used but still inside the box. Unfortunately the lcd is a bit broken due to ageing. Anyone interested?

Smartphones aren't great for music…the iPod clickwheel is far superior

Seeing your Cowon inspired me to pull mine out of mothballs. Unfortunately the battery seems to be beyond charging, the unit won't start any more. Like you, it was my essential travel companion for movies, music and etc. Sad, hate to see a good product like this go to "electronics heaven in the sky". Thanks for your great videos!

P.S. I was able to get the case open, and am ordering a new battery via Amazon for this. Fingers crossed…

The issue with ebay 'replacement'' Li bateries for phones/ tools/ etc. is that in my experience they are always sadly short on amp hours compared to the original cells, regardless of how their ratings are stated. The hard drive pulls some current in this. As for firmware 'upgrade' links – if it's not from Cowon it's not the real deal for this machine.
