The passing of Frank Drake has me ruminating on his famous equation, and revising it by applying what we have leaned about radio in the 60 years since he first proposed searching the skies for interstellar radio signals.

Well put Fran. We will just have to wait until they contact us directly before we make contact!
Yeah, entropy makes the intro to "Contact" seem fanciful, but it's still cool. If warp 6 is possible, where are all the tourists?
Does a habitable planet require a strong magnetic field? Does that require the planet to spin? Iron core? Seems many are tidally locked.
Perhaps advanced civilizations eventually learn how to communicate using neutrinos, which would be a great way to minimize space junk around your planet; you could put all your transmitters on the ground instead of in space
Super Interesting
Just listened to your vid ,,your are absolutely right in wot you say ,, the lies are all about money Brain wash people into given moor taxes to pay for there lies
Hello fran just come across your site You are a Fascinating lady
Here, now that we have the JWST with it's unprecedented IR light gathering capability, we might actually stumble on a coded signal of some sort of LIGHT from a planet ordinarily lost in the glare of it's parent star. Light wavelengths are a bit more survivable due to their inherent energy, and while doing some routine world-beating observation, we might catch a repeating or obviously modulated light flashing our way that could not possibly be of terrestrial origin. The frequency of Hydrogen molecules was postulated as a galactic "calling channel" at one time, but that's down in the microwaves again. I'm betting a talkative civilization goes with lasers. What do you think? Sail on, Frank Drake, indeed, and you too Fran….all the best from the sunny south. JC
I have pointed out the issue of digital formats many times.
Without the codec all you may hear is the carrier-wave.
"Video killed the radio star"
Hallelujah I have been saying this for years but people donโt have the common sense or simple physics understanding to realize this. There are quiet parts of the radio spectrum but even at those frequencies there is still is a significant noise floor and therefore an extraterrestrial transmission would have to be of incredible in energy (Like that of a star) to enable us to differentiate signals from the noise over such a distance. As I see it with our current understanding of things, the only way to do this is using quantum entanglement which at this time presents an near on infinite number of challenges. Nice vid Fran..
Fran. Your geekery is unparalleled
I saw where Frank Drake had passed. RIP
wow what an insightful alternitive view well done well done ๐
