My particular Autistic traits are very similar to yours and as we're also pretty close in age, my experiences with the lack of understanding and diagnosis also track very closely. I wish I could have the same range of hearing I used to as understanding it now would make it easy to live with… Sadly, that and eyesight seem to be the only things that have diminished.
Thanks for sharing. It's always helpful to hear experiences from other neurodivergent folks. Personally I have ADHD (primarily inattentive type) which presents similarly to autism but also being "high-functioning" my parents never tried to get me diagnosed or treated; it wasn't until my 40s when I finally got a diagnosis, and it's amazing just how awful people can be about downplaying issues that people struggle with.
