This is another re-posting of a video I did in July 2012 - Sorry again about the really bad audio but my crappy webcam created that warbley filtered underwater audio effect. I-AM-A-RO-BOT! This was also recorded in a July heat wave so I am sweating like all get-out..... no glamor possible so here I go anyway! In this video I show how to put together the tooling and make the guides that you will need, and I explain the technique you would use to create this shallow flat contour scalloping effect that makes the Frantone Fretboard so useful and attractive. I finish it up by putting the guitar back together and testing it out. I omitted the treatment part in the video, but after getting the fretboard fine sanded I rubbed in a few heavy coats of mineral oil to preserve the wood and bring out the look of the rosewood. Then I give the guitar a try and do some playing.... Hey, that IS the fun part after all, right? Thanks for watching! ☺

I don't know the correct terminology , but my 1st thought would be to replace the frets with taller ones ? would that be a thing ?
Your videos are cool.
GODDESS
Amazing work
Your arthritis has kept you from playing. I'm getting arthritis or carpal tunnel and have known about scalloped finger boards but never gave it much thought. I plan on building a Tele and after watching your vids, I will probably give this a try, it should make bar chords less painful.
Fran, you're the greatest!
LOVE your added comments – and the way you pronounce "melamine" … very cute!
Nice. I prefer your Frantone scallop profile over the usual Malmsteen profile, and even the Blackmore one which I was leaning toward before I saw this. Yup, I'm doing a Frantone scallop.
A router guide, so simple, yet so clever. 🙂
I would love (and I think I speak for a lot subscribers) to hear some more of that knarley Franocaster!
fran, you and i were thinking the exact same way abut how to assure the depth. i never scalloped before, i just thought a router attachment on dremel was a great start. — i masked off the frets on my tele around a year ago , but then got too busy to do the job. was going to make one pass at each fret space , just a depth gauge and do the rest by hand ( traditional scallop) . had not thought of doing it flat like you did, very sneaky-cool.
