But what I understood about the letter, is they asked OpenAI to take a pause. Not all AI developments. Not sure but it looks more like an industrial/commercial motivation than a moral one.
Hah. My wife and I have been binging the crime-drama show "The Blacklist". We just went through an episode in which an AI "achieves sentience." In a twist from usual sci-fi tropes, it determines that AI is the biggest threat to humanity, so it decides to assassinate leading figures in AI development (including its own creator) and sabotage/destroy all AIs in development (including itself.)
"The only winning move is not to play" indeed!
Maybe this is the answer to the Femi paradox.
