The software in question sounds like a Chinese room that can manipulate language but have no thoughts or self awareness.
Licky de do, Licky dah ping pong, lippy tappy too tah.
understand that AI.
Well, it's hard to live without human presences in your life either. And some of them are also hard to turn off. At least, not legally.
Well said, Fran. You are spot on with all this. Hope this message finds you well. 🙃
Old Joke: "The U.S. Government assembled the brightest minds to develop the most advanced computer system possible to answer man's age old questions. After it was built, the first question they asked was 'Is There s God?' The computer answered, 'There is now.'"
George Orwell would have made hay with this. By the way, what ever happened to the old Google mantra? It was something like "don't be evil".
…..🤔💞.ill marry my fridge….next year…..💞..shes sooo pretty… and knows everything about me….she cares about me….
Tough times when your only friend is the fridgebot.
Do an online search for product reviews, such as "best so and so of 2022", and you will discover that many "reviews" are actually generated by AI !! Sometimes it will tell you so at the very bottom of the page.
I'm think'n my Smart Fridge is rat'n to my health care provider of how many times I get the Mayo jar out by way of "big data".
I am a retired electrical engineer so I'm no Ludite. I've never owned a smartphone and I don't want one. Me and my wife own simple flip phones (Tracfones). We only use them for voice and we only use them if we are traveling. They do everything that we need. We use an old-fashioned analog landline with an answering machine at home.
Companies have moved from collecting personal data, to collecting behavioural data. It's the latter which will be used to determine all aspects of your life in the future. Imagine being profiled by an algorhithm based on your nextflix history which decides your health insurance should go up because you're at risk from obesity from watching too many cookery shows. Or a Tesla car collecting data about your driving and decides you have a higher risk of a crash because of how you park, consequently reporing that to your insurance company prompting a premium hike. Honestly though this is not a new idea, insurance companies have been profiling people for decades (just not with "big data").
Where's my replicator, I'm still waiting…
Didn't Led Zeppelin do an album called Presence?
Too often I look around and think, damn AI is here, it is just unexpectedly in the form of humans
They're just trying to replace customer service and receptionists. Learning who you are is from listening devices, not chatbots. No one tells secrets to a receptionist
technology is a double-edge sword, always has been..you can use it for good or evil..a knife can be used to cut your food, or for mugging/murdering someone..a siri/alexa smart speaker could help someone with a handicap, or, it could monitor all conversations, creating computer-generated transcriptions to collect your data for what ever reason they deem acceptable in the fine print to "improve siri/alexa."
