Hi Fran, I've been a $20/month supporter for nearly 5 years. I used to love your videos. Now, it's rehashes of your live streams, and complaints about your lack of patrons. I came to your channel because of projects and showing cool stuff from your archives. That's all but stopped since you got your last eviction notice. You want to keep patrons? Do some projects. Do you even want to do this anymore? I was paying to see projects. Even before this video, I've been wondering why I was paying $20/month. I'm starting to feel like this money would be better spent on people making actual content.

Where is franlab? How can go away, when was the last time you made an electronics video, in the lab? If you don't enjoy it, stop. It's pretty easy. I think you have made more of these videos than electronics videos in the past year.
Idea, start showcasing the electronic oddities you have (That's what everyone wants!), then sell them on ebay or something. You will have a archival video of that object theoretically forever, and now you gain space and make some money off the things that are costing you money right now to store.
Edit: read below, but to my point below, look at your highest viewed recent video. The video about resistors, do one of those every 3 days and it will be the same as 3 daily videos that nobody wants. If that doesn't tell you want people want then, well, that's all I've got.
The archived films kind of puzzle me. I am not interested in them, not that they are bad, I just am not interested in them and reading the comments under this video that seems to be the general consensus. I know the video's everyone wants (including me) take way longer and it would be a gamble whether or not you would get the views, but I also know that posting a video daily that nobody wants is a worse gamble.
I don't use Patreon so I don't know what you have going on there, but I wonder if it is in a similar situation to YouTube.
If it won't work then I suppose it is what it is, but I think FranLab could be saved if you would just stop trying to feed the algorithms. Look at the copyright strikes for example, why post video's nobody wants, that end up with strikes, then complain about it? Yes the system is broken, but nobody asked for these archive videos anyway. I don't think any of the long time watchers want the rant's either, the algorithm is kind of tricking you because the algorithm likes drama, but there is no holding power to drama, at least not for this audience. The same goes for posting video's every day that nobody wants…
I know it's been said before but I think you should move somewhere that's way cheaper, your just throwing money away. I mean, expenses of over 10k a month? what? how? there are places where just 5000 a month for all expenses will go a very very long ways, but I think in one of your past videos you mentioned how you don't want to move away. So at the end of it I suppose I really don't have anything to help.
I read a book one that had a few chapters about knowing when to quit is an important skill to have.
Rent is such a scam. By far one of the biggest scams in the world, I swear, it's the same all around the world and even worse in urban areas. You're more than lucky if you can afford a mortgage with a single job or inherit a place I tell you.
I loved this channel but I could never support it financially, simply because I can't send any money from my country, taxing is ridiculous, if I contributed with $1 then I'd have to pay $2.10 and that difference would be taxes.
If you have to get rid of some equipment… use it one last time first, and make a video of that. Dont just get rid of stuff that hasnt been seen or used one last time.

I hear you, Fran. Thank you for explaining all this fully and with such precise documentation. So many makers of youtubes seem a mystery to us — sometimes I wonder how genuine their pleas for financial help are. You've really humanized this, and I'm going to help asap. My job usually includes a yearly bonus sometimes after Nov. 1, and I absolutely will help. I agree, however, that the Patreon, and other concepts of crowd funding are no substitute for dedicated sources of funding. They are a libertarian delusion. Still, I want you to stay. So much. I'll help.
I'd like to see you and a lot of other conscientious youtubers huddle and come up with an alternative way to gain audiences and support free of the corporate elite of YT and google etc.
I have heard of at least one cooperative that allows videos to be posted in the manner of youtubes. Could this be the answer?
