thinking vs believing … we cannot ask everyone to do the same … it's always mind developing to listen to other people's critical thoughts … greeting from Mexico City.

Where did you get the red frame glasses? They are GREAT! I have looked all over the internet but so far can't find any red frames. I used to have several, now they seem to be gone! I want em! I lover your videos BTW, They are a little like comfort food…or a nerdy version of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Wonderful.

I don't understand something. You say you know how to thwart pushed content by technical means such as blocking cookies and vpns. But you're still reading a physical newspaper?

I think the biggest difference is that when we grew up the internet was new and we hungered for information we had trouble finding. Kids who grew up with the internet don't see it as anything special. Another big difference is that we lived through the ramping up of internet/msm propaganda so we can see it more easily.

Actually, I get the sense that it is your and my generation and the one before it that were woefully unprepared for social media. It's us and the boomers that are being entranced by the beautiful scapes of conspiracy, people that had achieved a level of critical thinking, but we're happy to leave it behind. The kids today are growing up with algorithms and will not succumb to the massive circle jerks they see the old people engaging in.

Hi Fran, how do we know what the news is or what is real or true. how do you know your not in a bubble that seems like you have freedom of thought or did you really choose thoses papers 🙂

My attention was on that IBM selectric. Yes, my son, b 2002 once asked me about flat earth. I told him about all those satellites going around and around, so that fixed that.

I would Frant too but my name is Scott so I have to Scrant! I think that critical thinking is VERY important. But critical thinking comes about by realizing or being shown that something you believed to be true is/was not true. And the newer perspective fits better with associated or related facts.

If a person can't, for themselves, discover a more accurate perspective, or is never shown how to develop critical thinking skills, then they'll be among those who will never realize how little they know. These kinds of people can become a negative influence to a well functioning society.

Unfortunately, the larger a population grows the greater the number of non critical thinking (unknowingly ignorant) people there are. As a percentage of the population they may be the same, but their number still grows as the population grows. And it's not like these unknowingly ignorant people can't be taught or learn new things. But certain people know how to convince this sort of person, by way of emotional appeals and such, that THIS is the RIGHT WAY to think. But that "right way" may involve things like establishing support for the invasion of another country – for no real and positive and/or legal purpose.

History is so rich, diverse and surprising that it is a crime NOT to be interested in it
