Try setting the WiFi connection on the laptop as metered, and set Windows Update to not download over metered connections. At least that might keep the update-related crashing at bay.

Regarding Mars, isn't it true that they have found evidence of frozen water deposits that don't exist on the moon? Why does nasa et al perceive it to be a more inhabitable environment compared to the moon despite it being much further afield?

I agree with you about the sidewalk situation. I always wondered how a new generation of kids would do raised on phones and screens.
The only hope for the children of the discourteous young adults is that once they have children (or are around other people's children) they'll see the worst aspects of their own behaviors and realize that they aren't, and never were entirely autonomous and they need to start acknowledging that other people aren't just obstacles. Hopefully. Else the next generation will entirely be so antisocial that the next generation will be the end of society.
