I never did anything with it but I once saved the tiny speaker from a musical greeting card intending to use it for an amp of some kind.
What I did end up doing was keeping the speakers I put in the doors of my rusty 1973 Mustang ("the rustang") and just placing one naked facing up on the floor – being fed from an 80s home amplifier into an Ibanez MOStortion and then into that speaker. That was like the biggest sound I ever got.

Love it. But one LM386 has enough (200x) open loop gain to make a lot of distortion. It was used like that in a lot of DIY distortion/amp projects. Like Little Gem. No need for the second stage. Put some resistor or trimmer between lugs 1 and 8 to set the gain.
