Honest question – why can't that oversight — copy writers, editors, fact checkers, etc. — exist in an online medium? I'm not talking about social media or YouTube, I'm talking about literally the newspaper being digital instead of ink. To me, it's just a medium — and companies are going to use the most cost effective medium. I guess what I'm asking is — if I can trust the printed version of the Grizzlytown Bugle Gazette — why can't I trust the online version of the Grizzlytown Bugle Gazette if they decide it's more cost effective to put up a website rather than print? Can't they have the same copy writers, editors, fact checkers, etc.?
I remember the days people here in 🇩🇪🇪🇺went crazy over this and some people went so far to but huge stocks of tungsten lightbulbs. Preppers kind of people. Just 6 month later no one remembers anymore. I am actually surprised you just do this now.
But ya, any successful developed country got regulatory agencies. That is why so many people hate the EU, because EU do a very good job regulating the important every day needs across Europe. People don’t get it
if you disagree, and your uninformed…. i do not care what your opinion is. 💣💣💣
The president has substantial power to influence regulatory agencies. He puts political appointees aligned with his interests in charge. That's why gas is approaching $6.00 a gallon and illegal immigrants are invading the country.
No one cares about the lightbulbs, it's solely about the opportunity to further demonise their supposed political or ideological rivals. It's the age of petty bullshit.
Sorry to break it to you Fran, but the rest of the world has known that ignorance is rife in America for decades. America has been the laughing stock of the developed world for a long time. A lot of Americans live in a bubble though and don't realise.
Can’t own plutonium??! Rats!!!! Who knew?
Wait, they don't teach civics anymore? Really?! When did they stop doing that? Is that even true?
"Imagine a Congress where nothing could get done". It's not so hard to do.
“If you disagree and you’re not informed, then I do not care what your opinion is”

Yeah. Regulatory committees are still beholden to congressional and judicial intervention. There's this whole concept of checks and balances that permeate our political system, that every seems to ignore. Regulatory committees/bodies are not the sole arbiters of law in these matters. Their rulings/regulations can be challenged. That's what I hope is the basis for most outrage, is the lack of checks from our body politic. People can petition their legislators to challenge the constitutionality of any and all regulations.
Excellent video Fran. Bring civics classes back to school.
very good commentary and much appreciated – 😎
Rule changes are not done arbitrarily by some random bureaucrat but rather through an structured, public process. Rule changes begin with an NPRM (Notice of Proposed Rule Making) which is published in The Federal Register which is issued daily online and is free and open to the public. The approval process includes a 60 day public comment period and usually includes a Cost-Benefit Analysis along with a Regulatory Impact Analysis. There is nothing secretive or sinister about this process.
