Copyright dispute is over so I can now show you this 16mm reel, the rarest from my own collection - This is the original camera footage of the crew of Apollo 12 in the hangar deck of the USS Hornet on November 24, 1969. Silent and shot on Ektachrome, it has some slight light exposure from when it was originally taken out of the camera, and the odd lighting on the carrier (likely a combination of sodium and mercury vapor) has given the film an odd blue/orange color mix. All other copies of this footage that exist were taken from this very reel, which is the sole historical source for this event.

Thanks for sharing your collection! Would love to learn more about film preservation.
Updoot and comment to help with the algorithm. Sorry YT screwed you over on this. Glad you were able to preserve this and get the original public!
I don’t think sodium vapor lamps started appearing until the mid/late 1970s but mercury vapor would have been common by 1969 – can’t say that would have been the case on a Navy ship but it’s possible and the coloration certainly suggests it.
It's so cool that you own this piece of history and that you fought to share it.
Fran, this is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing. So sorry, that you had to put up eith those copyright trolls. The copyright system sadly almost encourages trolls like these because there is much to gain and almost no risk for them.
im glad you got it back fran
Great to hear you were able to win the copyright fight with the trolls. Nice job on the film transfer and explanation.
This film is pure gold, thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Fran! I'd never seen this. I like the smaller details, like the bakers behind that immense cake.
I remember seeing something similar to that quarantine trailer in the Huntsville rocket museum
I truly love Scientist
WOW 😱THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FRAN 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I don't usually comment on YT but just wanted to say thank you so much for this.
Fran I'm so happy for you! Congrats!
