This interesting little 16mm film is from the Lacy Institute and showcases a lecture on how to develop a winning personality for better sales, but honestly it translates into a talk about what makes people likable and persuasive. Some entertaining asides have actors depicting the scenes being described. They put some money into this little production back in 1973, so enjoy!

Is that a young Jordan Peterson? (The third student with facial hair, answering the question โ€œwhatโ€™s the definition of personality?โ€)

Our old walk in safe that was upstairs at our S.F. photo lab still had old business documents in it. One was a business manual on how to get your sales people to sell more. Written in the 1930's. It was really the carrot on the stick in front of the donkey stuff. Very thought out, vey serious. Probably came from military trickle down. Of course there's the movie, Salesman, which follows 5 cigarette smoking bible salesman in the 50's. (real guys).

Service Stations? Smoking in the classroom? … I almost forgot! Thank you Fran for all you do in showing your collection

Thanks a lot for showing this film. It'so true what the teacher tells his audience, still valid after more than 48 years.

Selling with Subterfuge is a rare film but oh so powerful.

If I wasnโ€™t a figment of someone elseโ€™s imagination Iโ€™d totally be in advertising.

Is it really possible for most people to do what they like AND make money from it?

Personality is the ability to be organically spontaneous in front of a camera.

All the people here makes me think of Star Trek Enterprise…the Andorians always calling Earther's Pink Skins ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow is this film ever a slice of pop culture from the late 1960s. (Just noticed the date was 1973, but it feels earlier) From the cool old Plymouth station wagon at the full service gas station, to the audience smoking like chimneys. A man with a mildly irritating personality explaining the concept of personality to a room full of people with the type of personalities that I likely would never want to know. Valid concepts though. Kind of like a unit in the Dale Carnegie program.

Interesting. I wonder if that also helped you in launching and running Frantone ๐Ÿ™‚
