It is indeed the end of an era - and I wish it didn't have to be this way!

Fran, you are not charging the correct repair costs. Minimum should be $200 dollars to repair. You satisfy both sides of the equation, the honest user with an appreciated item and the scalper, taking a cut out of the scalpers pocket. It's business, go with the flow, don't deny.
Fran is not the only one who can repair these items. If not you, then someone else. Welcome to the market.

If folks will pay all that for a used pedal, they'll surely pay to have it repaired. I'm confused,as usual.

Fran my first new nice piece was a Maurice. One famous tennis player. You can fix up your pedals. Make it worth your time and charge these people like 400 or 500 for the repair. Use the funds for charity or something like that.

I'm sure you've had videos on this, but for those unaware of the tech, the entire concept of repairing pedals won't matter once the majority of the pedals out there are surface mount (i.e. the very very tiny circuits that are too fragile and small to fix unless you have specialized irons & lots of patience). I wonder if your pedals being expensive (combined with scarcity), and lots of other through-hole designs, are just the indirect result of using components that can be sourced and fixed.

Nobody will be able to repair my SMT Boss BD2 if it gets a beer spilled on it. Even smaller designers like, EQD, Walrus, Source Audio etc are using SMT. Years from now, if something fails, and those companies are gone, it will be pretty hopeless for the average person to even approach the repair. So it's inevitable, through hole pedals will remain in circulation and go up & up, while the rest will be salvaged.

I get it. I got my used Frantone at a time when it was cheaper than a new one. I didn't even buy it in reality I swapped it for an MI Audio pedal that my mate wanted. It's an impossible situation Fran, the only people that would pay $600 for a repair (as some commenters are suggesting) are people that are intending to sell it. As much as I love my Frantone, if it breaks, it will be replaced buy some other kind of Muff that I can afford because I don't want to be part of this stupid game either.

Obviously Fran is going to Fran her way. I can understand where she is coming from. Not how I would do it but I ain't making no XXXtones or anything else people would want to buy. Do wish you were getting some of that sweet green Fran but I have to rest assured knowing you get more value out of what you are not getting.

You could start manufacturing pedals again and destroy the second hand market prices overnight 😅

are you even real? How can someone like you exist? Dream.

Congrats! You just caused the prices of all existing FranTone pedals to Quadruple in value!

Another thing (sorry to hog the mic) – a couple of years ago I paid a guy (the best) $700 to fix a vintage Neumann KM84 that I paid $265 for. Why? Because I love the mic and could sell it for $1400 on eBay (but I won't). That's the way it works. $600-800 is not crazy for you to do the repair. I'm a two spirit and I think us non binary folks sell ourselves short because we've had years of thinking that the world we see out there isn't ment for us. Runs you down. Your work is worth $600-800 a repair. Be proud. You are the Best in the World at what you do.

I remember when a '65 Mustang cost less than $2,500.

"A used Frantone pedal should not cost more than it was new". WHAT???? A 1955 Strat or a '57 Chevy should not cost more than it did new? I really think you're selling yourself short. You're famous Fran! Your pedals are worth $1000 now. Something is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. And if someone is willing to pay a grand for a Frantone, and not once, but over and over, then that is what they are worth. I'd say embrace it. You're Big Time Fran, you are a legend, don't wait until you're dead to make lots of money! People love you, accept it!
