IMO, given that "to perpetuate itself" is the ultimate goal of all life, it's the predictive and intuitive nature of the mind that leads to everything that we as humans consider intelligence. At the very low end of the spectrum it starts with the basic ability to copy or mimic something or someone else understanding that it's an improvement on our own ways and goes through all sorts of creative paths to finish at the higher end as the ability to devise tools (physical or procedural and strategic) in order to never have to do the same thing twice thus saving precious waking time to improve your life even further. We've done exactly that for hundreds of thousands of years without any degrees.

For me I think a lot of my range of skills came from being poor as a kid. I knew if I broke something I wasnt going to get another one, so I learned how to fix things. And if I wanted something new, a lot of times I would take apart old toys I didnt want anymore and use the parts to make something new. And when youtube came out when I was around 12 or so, I quickly found it was a great way to learn new skills.

The internet is a priceless treasure trove of knowledge for those of us who grew up without parents or knowledgable parents to teach us things.

That's a beautiful quote from your dad. "The reward for the struggle of life is knowledge and understanding."

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Anthony Clark says:

Intelligence cannot be quantified because it is a function of consciousness, which is unquantifiable. This is why there are so many "definitions" of intelligence, just as there are of love.

thank you 🙂 I tend to agree with your fine assessment.

    Is 165 a high IQ?

Great video. The intelligence of octopi and birds is why I went vegan.

Wow. New to your channel. Wow that yes. I concur with the gists of the thoughts on intelligence you've presented very much – likely for similar reasons. My own prejudices also incline me to like your calm, composed and silly style. There you go. Mass appreciation where you work.

I drew schematics for 30 years for money. It always took 20% red ink to make them work. 80% right is a B student. I'll bet Fran draws schematics that need less red ink.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stephen Cook says:

When I was a student teacher, I heard Hans Jürgen Eysenck give a lecture on intelligence. It was superb, but his opening remarks included: " Intelligence is what intelligence tests are meant to measure".

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars I Consume DMT says:

This is such pseudoscience. IQ is a real thing and measures intelligence.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kane Smith says:

    The ability to belittle others

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D says:

Intelligence is the ability to consciously apply knowledge in a sentient manner to reach a goal. The level of complexity in that can propel it further, like adding empathy or style where an application may not need it, but it amuses us on a deeper level. Also intelligence isnt only what you know or how you apply it, but how you're able to ACCESS knowledge you do not already know and apply it. This is a big reason why IQ tests are ironically stupid as all hell. Many people are terrible retaining information but are super good at research and can answer most any question you give them if given a few moments to apply that skillset. True sentient intelligence also incorporates a base level of wisdom at its core. Wisdom and intelligence cannot be separated in humans there will always be overlap. This is what separates us from other species, but that is not to say other species do not attempt this as well. The universe is a billion shades, not on or off. Everything, living or mechanical or chemical, everything in existence and non existence has the capacity for intelligence as it is written in the very core of creations design as thought connects us all together; it is only a matter of time.

What Is Intelligence? A multi-dimensional tensor with no single value.
