Uuuugghhh!!! New and Improved? I don't think so. I really want a permanent work around all of the Windows 10 incompatibilities.

when you make things easier, (foolproof?) you make things obsolete. same things with motorcycles… i guess in every realm.
In a week, you could transition to Linux.
windows 10 here against my wishes, XP was fine for me… much preferred.
Other than the Raspberry PI as a print server, if your system has plenty of RAM: install VMWare and have an XP or Win7 VM function as a print server. Might not work well to host a scanner though.
Fran, the reason no such program exists is because Microsoft would sue them into the next century.
Fran Documents and Settings fokder is accessible. No hacking or coding. You can transfer your files and programs folder, true you cannot transfer installed programs.
Install your old programs, then copy and paste your old programs folders from your old computer. This way your programs will work and be setup like your old on your new pc
I totally agree with you and fully sympathize. The main problem is that Win7 can no longer be installed on the new hw. So for me, vmware workstation. Maybe in time some "desktop" hypervisor will be created and put an end to the constant reinstallation.
That does suck that device manufacturers kill their devices by making the drivers phone home. But I'm with the linux folks on your printer issues. You can set up a cheap linux server, connect all of your printers to that because the kind linux folks have collected AND KEPT every single printer driver there has ever been and then have your windows pc run its print tasks through your linux print server.
Win11 is based on 10 but nothing got killed off. And it looks better.
Oh yeah, none of my old games will install or run on Win11.
That hardware kill-off happened with XP too. I had a scanner and sound card that XP killed.
Have you upgraded to Win11 yet? You can set the folder permissions to "Read and write".
