Here we go again! Another Frant about YouTube going and tilting over the apple cart. Yes, you'll be seeing more ads this summer - and forever after that - but not here (I hope) as I am doing my best to stay away from the pressures to bloat all my videos with ads and junk. Enjoy!

I suspect most hate ads. But I also suspect they also like watching the near infinity of things on YouTube for free. Think about that. It might not be unreasonable to tolerate some ads in order to have free unlimited access to an unimaginable number of videos.

I think this is just another sign of the weird things the parent company, Google, does. I think they are pushing YouTube to not only be profitable but to so in way that investors would be happy with (always growing by great amounts)

I agree that they have a too narrow line of ads they want to serve and I have no idea if there is a reason for that. Restricted videos should have adult ads as well.

I think YouTube is too big for Google to get rid of but they have a problem of getting rid of services that seem at least mildly popular as a whole and very well liked by their customers. My thought is that it's not having the impact or bringing in the money that they want to. The latest is Google music being killed for YouTube music – which at the time it was decided they didn't even have all features matched of the old service. Most companies would have just migrated the service and team from one to the other, forcing program updates that did so.

Lastly with machine learning, how are the training it to know how people are liking the placement or not? If you ask anyone that watches any content their preferred placement of ads is going to be in the trash.

I often said that if the record companies and other makers if copyrighted stuff could charge you every time you played the record or taps or cd or dvd they'd do it even after you paid for their hard copy of their products . If they could demand a royalty from people who sell used things like records and other media, they would. I can imagine outlawing the resale on Ebay or in thrift shops , flea markets and garage sales anything that some tenth generation content owner claims a royalty from.

It's been a lot worse, adwise, lately.

Geez with the problems. We all have them. Let us move on to electronics.

Another clash between ethics, and profit. Your stance is admirable Fran. I already admired you – now even more.

I want to watch ads. I know. It's not I find ads fun, but I know you have to pay the piper. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the ads are being sooooo intrusive, annoying, insulting, or simply know too much about me (I really don't have an erectile dysfunction problem, regardless of my age). I'm getting sick and tired of seeing just absolute bullshit, like a Prager U ad on an atheist channel or things that EEVBlog and Thunderf00t has debunked already. I've been doing ad blocking since the early '80s when dialup ruled the world and ad companies would burn up your bandwith with auto-play flash with no stop button or a fake stop button, pop-under and pop-over ads, redirectors, and everything else shady. I feel if the ad companies can't play nice, then I won't play nice.

I have never met anyone who has bought either goods or services from these ads. Are advertisers mad, if not why do they pay for the placement of their advertising.

I hate Ads period … I don't monetize any videos on my channel and you're correct, YouTube will not circulate or send users to a channel that isn't monetized. From some other YouTube content creators I communicate with, they ended up having very political Ads supporting something they don't support at all. Content creators have NO control over the Ads, so existing subscribers see an Ad they don't like and stop watching and/or unsubscribe from the content creator believing we somehow can control the junk Ads that show up. FYI, YouTube's yearly revenue was up 36% so YouTube clearly does NOT need to do yet more ads … it's simply the ever increasing need for MORE PROFIT (Greed) at the expense of content creators.
