Keep doing this – I like having things to listen to while I am at work.

Speaking of unpublished, unfinished projects, I recall a PhD researcher once telling me at a major medical facility… "when presenting my work, I leave out some data so my competition cannot copy my efforts." Your presentation reminded me of that.

I love your content. Your channel kicks ass. Irrespective of what you cover!

I can't wait for the armageddon FranCast.

Many words of wisdom and experience, you actually helped me to feel a little better in my sad and miserable life. Thank you. Rob

Your portable television teardown was a success in my opinion. I learned a lot about miniaturization techniques in electronics from a period of time in which I was young and wished I could tear down something that, at the time I couldnโ€™t afford and wouldโ€™ve been way too prohibitively expensive of a prospect. But the knowledge gained is valuable, today. You explored a vintage technology artifact. And besides the battery really did mess that up and there were so many other possible pitfallsโ€”that wouldโ€™ve had a limited return, that I wouldโ€™ve done the same thing. Now, some may want to restore oneโ€”thatโ€™s their decision! You did what you thought was best. ๐Ÿ’œ ๐Ÿค˜

A good example of a channel with a healthy mix of failure and success would be ElecroBoom. Really, if we never fail, we'll never learn. Failure isn't a negative, it's simply a step in the process of discovery or creation. It's important to share those things because it can educate or encourage others. All too often build content is crafted to appear easy when in fact it is not. Seeing botched attempts at something can actually motivate people to stick with it because it illustrates the fault may likely not be with themselves. Love your channel, Fran!

My biggest failure is probably taking our satellite Earth station offline at work. We were decommissioning the site, and my boss told me to pull all the gear out of this rack, and unbolt the rack so we can take it away to re-use. I get to the point where everything's out of the rack except for the Ethernet cabling, which I can't remove because the patch panel won't fit through the gap between the cable tray and where it exits the rack. So obviously I do what any other person would, cut through the cabling and pull it out. What I didn't notice was that there was a short Ethernet cable looping between two ports, completely unlabelled, of course. A few minutes later a bunch of engineers come running into the room asking what I did, so I told them I was asked to clear everything out of the rack, so I cleared everything out of the rack. Apparently that looped cable was carrying the connection to the Earth station, and I'd just taken our satellite up/downlink offline.

We were eventually able to figure out which cable it was by matching the cuts in the cables. Punched it back down onto the back of the patch panel and the connection came right back up.

A fellow college-mate: "Why are you getting so much better than everyone else so much faster?". Because I practice 5 to 9 hours a day, stuff I can't play yet, and play music 5 nights a week for money. Obsessive fear. I told him "You've heard me screwing up in the practice room over and over til I get it right". I'm a drummer. It was when I let go of the fear of people listening at the door hearing me fail that I really started improving. I enjoy your videos. Just a real person.

It's a pretty well-established fact of life that humans are attracted to drama & pain, and find watching a contented life being lived boring. Indeed, a happy, contented life can be off-putting, as the majority of people do not have the privilege of living such a life and resent others who are able. On the other hand, struggling but having some kind of redemption arc is appealing. Human interest is wack, yo.

    You're a victim of Schadenfreude.

You are correct, it's folly to poor good money after bad, and so, poor your time into a project that has no end, or satisfaction in sight.

Yes, your projects have to be all finished, before posting the first episode.
